At the Elmwood Park, Illinois accounting firm of Leonard & Company, the IT department consisted of one man – accountant Peter Recchia.

“I can rebuild a computer if I have to, so I just handled a lot of it myself. The problem was the time it would take to deal with IT situations,” Recchia said. “ I can make more money as a CPA and investment adviser than as the office technician. But when one of our 22 workstations went down, I’d be the one to stop and fix it.”

Since Alchetec was already a client of the firm, Recchia inquired into their services, and eventually put the company in charge of a complete IT upgrade.

“It started with all new computers, workstations and servers, and mushroomed from there,” Recchia says. “Now Alchetec is handling all of our IT. We pay them a monthly fee and they take care of all of our needs. It’s been a worthy investment given the time we’ve saved and the efficiency we’ve gained.”

Alchetec helped Leonard & Company make the transition to new computers, printers and servers over the course of one weekend. They installed and tested all the necessary software in the servers prior to bringing them into the company offices. “Once all the bugs were out we made the switch,” Recchia recalled. “The new equipment was brought in on Friday night, Alchetec worked all weekend, and by Monday morning we were ready to go. Plus they answered all of our questions, and before they left they made sure everyone in the office was comfortable with the new technology.”

Previously, when the firm hired a new employee, Recchia would devote part of his day to installing the computer system they’d need, and getting the new hire up to speed on the equipment. Today, an Alchetec representative handles all employee training.

For the first time in years, Recchia no longer is concerned about IT repairs. “Alchetec can dial into our system from anywhere in the world and usually make the fix. If it’s a hardware problem they send someone out immediately. It’s one less thing I have to deal with. Before it seemed like I spent an hour or two each day fixing machines or loading software. Now I make one phone call or send an email, and Alchetec does the rest.”
