Practical Communications Incorporated (PCI) is a world-class publisher of technology information resources, dedicated to advancing technology businesses with niched magazines and trade shows. The Palatine, Illinois-based PCI deals with a top high-tech firms in the country on a daily basis, so one would assume they’d always be ahead of the curve in their own IT situation.

“Actually, three years ago we weren’t happy with where we were” admits Mary Beth Koelling, Executive Director of Sales and Marketing. “Our IT leadership was antiquated. We had an in-house team that needed more expertise. “Since we’re in the telecommunications business, we needed to have a savvy website, and be able to better manage our database and market to our audience the way they prefer to be marketed, which is electronically.”

A former colleague of Koelling recommended Alchetec, a full service IT firm that offers routine maintenance and support as well as strategic planning and implementation. “We needed a go-to team; a company that would take charge of monitoring our IT systems, and oversee a complete redesign of our website to improve its functionality and make it more user-friendly,” Koelling said.

Alchetec’s outstanding work on the PCI website turned out the be the first in a series of projects, including the streamlining of the company’s client database, the installation of advertising tracking software, and the creation of a registration website for the trade shows and events PCI sponsors.

Alchetec’s remote monitoring capabilities have kept PCI’s computers running, and on the rare occasion when an on-site visit is required, Koelling describes the company’s response time as “excellent.”

“We’ve had them jumping!” Koelling said of their collaboration over the past three years. “We also had Alchetec do a lot of electronic marketing for us. We’ll create a marketing message and they create a template for that message and distribute it. We put them in touch with our creative team so they can work in tandem with them. At this point we have a comfort and security level with Alchetec that we couldn’t imagine with any other IT company. They are truly an extension of our team.”
